GSN Data Access

Data availability: Near Real Time data are available at the GCOS Surface Network Monitoring Centre Products (GSNMC). Historical monthly and daily GCOS Surface Network (GSN) data are available online from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, North Carolina. NCDC also maintains supporting metadata submitted by WMO Members. The most recent monthly data are available from the GCOS Surface Network Monitoring Center in the Deutscher Wetterdienst and the Japan Meteorological Agency.

GCOS Surface Network Monitoring Centre

Monthly averages of certain surface meteorological variablesat the GSN stations are reported via the GTS shortly after the end of the month using the CLIMAT format.

The final monthly data set, after quality control, is available from the GSNMC and is forwarded to NCDC for storage in the World Data Center A for Meteorology.

In addition to the monthly data derived from the CLIMAT messages and forwarded by the monitoring centers, NCDC also acquires historical monthly and daily observations for the GSN stations. Parameters available typically include minimum, maximum, and mean temperatures, station and sea level pressures, winds, and precipitation.
