SAOZ Program Overview
The primary objective of the laboratory System d' Analyse par Observation Zenitale (SAOZ) is the study of physical/chemical and dynamical processes controlling the main constituents in :
The objectives and the activities of the Service d'Aéronomie, originally focused studying the physics and chemistry of the high atmosphere but have been extended to the study of the physical and chemical processes in the atmospheres, and their impact on the environment and the climate.
- terrestrial atmosphere (particularly stratospheric ozone, oxidization properties of the troposphere, Sun-Earth interactions and climate-environment relationships)
- planetary and comet atmospheres
- local interstellar and interplanetary medium

Program Management
The Service d'Aéronomie (SA) was created in 1958. The laboratory began with the launch of rockets devoted to the observation of the Earth atmosphere and the Sun and has been characterized by a deep involvement in space adventure, in instrumental developments, and by important efforts in studying and modeling terrestrial and planetary atmospheric systems.
SA is part of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), but is also affiliated to two universities : Université Pierre and Marie Curie (also named Paris VI) and Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin. In addition, SA is part of a federation of research laboratories named Institute Pierre Simon Laplace, and is one of the space laboratories recognized by the French space agency (Centre National d' Etudes Spatiales (CNES)). |
