CalCOFI Data Access

Data availability: Data are available online for the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CalCOFI) data.

Access the Databases

Data are available for Cruise data, Zooplankton, CUFES, temperature, currents, etc.

 • Recent Data:

 • Since 1949, hydrographic and biological data of the California Current System have been collected on CalCOFI cruises. The 54+ year hydrographic time-series includes temperature, salinity, oxygen and phosphate observations.

Access CalCOFI Data Archives

 • CIFT extracts and formats data from the IEH archives into comma-delimited ASCII (decimals) files. Currently there are two separate forms: bottle data and station data. Bottle data are data from the discrete depth water samples. Station data include station information, weather, and productivity data.

 • Final hydrographic data from 1949- Apr 2006

Access Hydrographic Database

 • Zooplankton: The displacement volumes reported in the bi-annual CalCOFI Data Reports are online in downloadable format and query form.

Access Zooplankton Database

 • CalCOFI data are available on the CalCOFI website as data reports or in archived IEH format. The CalCOFI IEH archive includes two versions: observed data (YYMMarch.ieh) and interpolated standard levels (YYMMt.ieh).

Data Policy

CalCOFI hydrographic and plankton data are distributed to the community for use without restriction. Unless otherwise noted, these data can be considered to be final data which have been evaluated using CalCOFI data quality control procedures. Methods for data collection and processing are summarized in cruise data reports introduction.  Preliminary data from recent cruises for which the data processing is not complete can generally be made available to those programs for which there is an operational need.
