The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES)
Data Access
Data availability: The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) has some of the largest databases in the world on fisheries, oceanography and the marine environment including biological and chemical contaminant data. Some of the physical oceanographic data and gridded data and other products can be ordered for download. Most ICES data has been passed to the World Data Centre/Oceanography.

Available Data Products
Various gridded products are available for oceanography data by request. Visit the database and services page for details.
Most codes used by ICES are stored in one database that can be accessed online. See References Codes.
ICES maps all species to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) and recommends WoRMS for exchange of species information. |
Data and Information Aspects
Scientists working through ICES gather information about the marine ecosystem including fisheries data, oceanographic data, biological data, and chemical contaminant data. ICES includes a large data center that does quality control, processes, archives, and distributes the data on request according to their data sharing policy. This center has some of the largest databases in the world on these subjects. In 2005, the ICES Council adopted a new data policy.
