  ACSAD Program Overview

The Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Land (ACSAD) is a regional center for research and studies pertaining to the development of the arid and semi-arid areas of the Arab World.

Program Management

The Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) was established in Damascus, Syria in 1968. The work of ACSAD is supervised by a General Assembly composed of the ministers of agriculture from the member states of ACSAD and an elected Executive Council consisting of seven representatives of seven Arab states. The main mission of ACSAD is to face the challenge imposed by the arid and semi-arid environments.

ASCAD specialized divisions include:

  • Soil Studies and Water Uses
  • Water Studies
  • Animal Wealth Studies
  • Plant Studies
  • Economy and Planning
  • Financial and Administrative Affairs

Users

Users of ACSAD data and information are scientists and managers in the Arab world dealing with serious problems such as the security of the food supply, availability of fresh water, the desertification phenomenon, the pollution of the water resources and the decrease of biodiversity.
