There is an 80% chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday as the Washington, DC area experiences its seventh straight day of temperatures exceeding 90C.
Thunderstorms are expected to move east into the Interstate 81 corridor around 2:00 p.m. Storm Team4 radar shows a series of storms moving over the Dulles International Airport area between 4pm and 5pm and DC around 5pm
Storms could be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts and hail. Heavy rainfall is possible locally, but flash flooding is less of a concern due to the recent drought.
Think about the great heat before the storms hit. Expect highs in the mid 90’s and a heat index near 100 degrees. Remember to take shade breaks and drink plenty of water.
Fine weather is forecast for the remainder of the week and much of Labor Day weekend.
Afternoon highs remain mostly in the mid-80s for the remainder of the week with lower humidity.
