The National Weather Service issued flash flood monitoring for DC and most of Maryland and Virginia Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.

Wednesday was the hottest day in the DC area this year. Thursday won’t be that hot, but storms are still announced.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood monitoring for DC and most of Maryland and Virginia Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected, with local rainfall rates of up to two inches per hour being possible. The National Weather Service predicts total rainfall of one to three inches, with locally higher amounts of up to ten centimeters possible.

Heavy rainfall over a short period of time could cause streams and creeks to rise quickly from their banks, along with the possibility of flash floods in urban areas.

The maximum temperatures are expected to be reached in the mid to late 1980s.

But when it rains, the temperature drops, and Friday comes relief with highs in the mid-70s through the mid-80s.

Storm Team4 meteorologist Mike Stinneford said a shower or storm is possible on Friday but there won’t be a washout.

It can rain sporadically on Saturday, but July 4th should be comfortable and dry, said Stinneford.

forecast

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain and heavy storms possible. High in the mid to late 80s.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms subside and lead to a dry afternoon. Cooler and less humid. Highs in the deep 80s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, thunderstorms possible in the afternoon or evening. High in the mid to late 1970s.
