Heavy rain, thunderstorms likely in Andhra for 5 days, check full IMD forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms and lightning on September 9 in isolated locations on the North Coast of Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam on the South Coast of Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

The weather bureau also said the state will experience severe to very severe falls in NCAP and Yanam in the coming five days, with extremely severe falls likely in isolated locations, according to ANI news agency.

“On September 10, the state is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain in remote locations in NCAP and Yanam. Heavy rain is likely in remote locations in SCAP,” IMD explained, adding that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely to occur in remote locations in NCAP, Yanam and SCAP.

The Amaravati Meteorological Center also said that locations in NCAP and Yanam could also experience thunderstorms and lightning on September 11, while weather conditions on September 12 and 13 are likely to be stable in the state.

Meanwhile, the first warning signal was sounded at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada when floodwater flow in the Krishna River touched four lakh cusecs on Friday morning.

In an official statement from Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Agency executive director BR Ambedkar, the flood is only increasing as over 4.25 lakh cusecs (cubic feet of water flow per second) at Dr. KL Rao Sagar Pulichintala, upstream of the Prakasam, have been barrage initiated, according to the PTI news agency.

District Krishna Collector Fr. Ranjit Basha has also instructed officials that the government machinery is on high alert in the face of the rising tide. He also instructed people not to go near the course of the river.

The Penna River also continued to abound with increasing water inflows. On Friday, the inflow at the Somasila reservoir in SPS Nellore district reached 30,000 cubic meters and the Gandikota reservoir in YSR Kadapa district reached about 30,000 cubic meters of water.
