Nationwide 5-day forecast
Cyclone Jawad is currently over the western central Bay of Bengal and is expected to move north-northwest on Saturday morning. The cyclone continues north-northeast until Saturday afternoon and then on Sunday along the coast of Odisha across the northwestern Bay of Bengal to the northeast. Jawad is expected to approach Odisha and move northeast along its coast before falling into a depression on Sunday night. The cyclone will then approach the coast of West Bengal on Monday night.
Under his influence, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and gusty winds are likely over isolated parts of the north coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, and heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over isolated parts of West Bengal on Saturday. Heavy to very heavy phases accompanied by gusty winds are likely over isolated parts of Northern Odisha and West Bengal.
The India Meteorlogical Department (IMD) has issued red warnings across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to warn people to “act” due to the heavy rainfall and strong surface winds, while on Gangetic West Bengal an orange warning has been issued to let individuals ” be prepared for heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Heavy rains are forecast on Sunday over isolated locations in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy to very heavy rains and gusty winds are likely over isolated locations in Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, and heavy rains are forecast for Monday over isolated locations in West Bengal.
In the meantime, a western disruption is likely to affect the western Himalayan region and the adjacent plains of northern India from Saturday to Monday. Widespread rain / snow and thunderstorms are possible over Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and rain / snow and thunderstorms can be expected fairly widespread over Himachal Pradesh on Sundays.
