Herman of Raiders scores twice, Chaika with a shutout in the win over the Hurricanes

“The management group did a great job. I really could have been sitting in my office tonight. They ran the bank. They ran everything. They checked each other, they took responsibility, they were on the ball,” said Habscheid. “It was a good game. I thought the guys did a good job and like I said, they were mentally there.”

The Raiders were certainly fired up for the game, just 3:25 into the contest. Sloan Stanick converted a backdoor feed from Reece Vitelli just 73 seconds into the game before Evan Herman punched Hurricanes goalie Bryan Thomson through his legs for the early lead. Thomson was then immediately pulled out of the Hurricanes’ goal after giving up two goals from two shots and replaced by Jared Picklyk.

In the second half, the Raiders scored as many goals as the Hurricanes shot – two. Evan Herman tore the 4:13 with his second goal of the game, a brilliant one-timer at the end of the power play. Landon Kosior then put in his 15th placeth Goal of the season as he might just become the Raiders’ fourth defenseman with 20 goals in a season.

With Evan Herman’s power-play goal in the second half, it was the fifth straight game the Raiders have scored with man advantage and the sixth of their last seven games. The Raiders are 6-21 in that range, 28.5 percent.

“I think we just brought it on ourselves, we talked as a group about how we need to get better,” Herman said. “We pointed out power to a few and turned them off on the PK, which is just as important. Everyone has risen to the challenge here and we are doing a good job now.”
