Miami Hurricanes rookie Cyrus Moss was recognized as one of “The 100 true freshmen counting in 2022 by Chris Hummer of 247 Sports. Moss was the senior signer of Miami 2022. Hummer expects Moss to break the Miami Edge rusher rotation in 2022.
It would be impressive for Moss to break through a group of edge rushers that has become a deep Miami Hurricanes group. Miami signed transfers with UCLA’s Mitchell Agude and West Virginia’s Akheem Mesidor during the 2022 offseason. Agude and Mesidor are expected to be the starting DEs of 2022 for Miami.
Miami also brings back Jahfari Harvey and Chantz Williams, who were part of the edge rusher rotation for the Hurricanes in 2021 and are expected to make major contributions in 2022. Moss and Nyjalik Kelly, who were other senior 2022 Edge Rusher signers for Miami, are the future at DE for the Hurricanes.
Moss had 111 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks last season at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Bishop Gorman is the same high school that produced Miami Hurricanes grads, safety Bubba Bolden, tight end Brevin Jordan and quarterback Tate Martell. Lobster profiled Moss.

“Moss flashed bright in the Hurricanes’ spring game, leading the team with three sacks while also adding a forced fumble. However, the 6-foot-6 moss only weighs 220 pounds. He needs to get stronger. But what he has is a rare mix of length and twitches for someone his size.
Moss will not start this year but is expected to make his way into the rotation as a situational pass rusher.”
At 6’6, Moss could pursue a similar career to former Miami star Greg Rousseau. Rousseau was often used as an inside pass rusher on third downs, disrupting opponents with his length. Kelly and Moss have a good group of veterans to learn from in 2022. The addition of Agude and Mesidor was crucial.
With Agude, Harvey, Mesidor and Williams as true newcomers, Kelly and Moss don’t have to make any significant contributions. Rousseau had a 2022 breakout season with 54 tackles, 19.5 TFLs and 15.5 sacks. Agude had 55, 6.5, two and four forced fumbles for UCLA and Mesidor had 38, eight and 4.5 for West Virginia in 2021.
Moss was the eighth edge rusher and runner-up from Nevada in the Class of 2022. Moss began his high school career as a safety guard. 247 Sports’ Blair Angulo predicts Moss as a future first-round pick. Jaelan Phillips and Rousseau were selected from Miami in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
