The security position development for the Miami Hurricanes will continue when Avantae Williams makes his sophomore college debut against the state of North Carolina on Saturday. Williams missed his entire real freshman season due to an unknown medical condition.
Debut had to wait this season as Williams was suspended for the first six games of 2021. Real newbies Kamren Kinchens and James Williams made an impact for Miami in the first half of the 2021 season. Kinchens is eighth of the Miami Hurricanes with 16 tackles and has added a pass breakup and a forced fumble.
Williams has 12 tackles, one of the four Miami interceptions, and a pass breakup. James Williams is listed as a sure starter on the depth map against the state of North Carolina this week with Bubba Bolden. Kinchens is the backup to Bolden and Gurvan Hall is behind James Williams on the depth map.
The Miami Hurricanes coaching staff doesn’t expect Avantae Williams to take effect immediately. Head coach Manny Diaz told reporters Monday that Avantae Williams will play a role on special teams against the state of North Carolina on Saturday. Miami will be profound and talented at security for the next few years.
“We’re getting Avantae out of there. I’m not sure how big the role he will be if Avantae is down, Avantae missed the entire training camp and wasn’t allowed to train with us for the first two weeks of the season. So he’s really only been back four weeks, um, as a full-time coach.
There are some things he’s been missing, but it’ll be good to have him out there again to put him in the competition. I think I’d have to assume he’d play a role on special teams … just to get it back. It’s still his very first college game out there, so you’ve got to temper expectations … how you build your portfolio.
In the future he doesn’t have to do anything special, he just does a great job in the role he is supposed to play and I am sure it will expand from then on. “
Avantae Williams was the 42nd best player, second best safety and seventh best player in Florida in the 2020 class according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. James Williams finished 15th, best safety and fourth in the 2021 class with Kinchens 330th, 23rd and 52nd Miami will find a way to get all three on the field.
James Williams is the second most gifted defensive player on the Miami roster after the 2021 five-star signer, Defensive Tackle Leonard Taylor. Avantae Williams is fourth and Kinchen’s 19th. Security is the most talented positional group on Miami’s list. Bolden is the sixth most gifted defender in Miami.
