Navy, BSP donate 10 fishing boats to Typhoon Odette survivors

Naval Reserve Center Eastern Visayas (NRCen-EV), in partnership with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, handed over 10 fishing boats to survivors of Typhoon Odette on Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The fishing boats represent a new hope for survivors of Typhoon Odette, which hit Cebu in December 2021.

“Beneficiaries’ fishing boats were either destroyed or severely damaged by the storm,” said NRCen-EV Commander James Francis Lugtu.

“Hopefully, these boats will provide our beneficiaries with rewarding employment and help their families and the community in general to resume their way of life,” he added.

The Bangka project, themed ‘Layag para sa Kaugmaon’ (Sailing for the Future), aims to restore the livelihoods of the Happy Fisher Folks on the island. (PR)
