Manila, Philippines – Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles has announced that Task Force Yolanda, in coordination with the National Housing Authority and local government officials, has distributed titled houses and land to family members who fell victim to the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas.
CabSec Nograles said it started selling these homes and land on Nov. 8, 2021 in Guiuan, eastern Samar, as part of Aug.
“As we commemorate eight years since Typhoon Yolanda, we come full circle with the almost complete completion of the free survivor housing units in various areas in Regions 6, 7 and 8, as well as in the nearby provinces affected by the disaster “Said Nograles stated.
The Malacañang official said 989 homes in Caibiran, Biliran, and 1,715 additional units in Basey, Samar, were given to NHA Region 8 as part of the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project.
“The land titles for Eastwind Residences are long overdue perks for those who have waited years for government support. The 194 recipients of titled homes and properties can now look forward to a better future for their families, â€said the Cab Sec.
Nograles thanked the local government officials in the named areas for their cooperation in the rapid implementation of the housing aid programs and for ensuring the timely distribution of the units in their areas of responsibility.
He also thanked the NHA Region 8 for addressing the logistical and structural challenges posed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
To date, the cross-agency task force for the uniform implementation and monitoring of rehabilitation and reconstruction projects and programs in Yolanda-affected areas, headed by Nograles, has handed over 87,640 residential units to LGU beneficiaries in the so-called Yolanda Corridor.
“We will all achieve our goals before President Duterte’s term ends. This is our commitment. We want to close Yolanda and give hope to the families affected, so we have prioritized these gifts of housing and livelihood, â€affirmed Nograles. – / mbmf
